Suggestion IPv6

Postby ofloo on Sun Mar 30, 2008 2:50 pm

Maybe IPv6 support for nameservers since most tld registar do support it, there are currently even IPv6 root name servers, instead of waiting for the last minute to support something you could take your time testing it building it, ..

+1 to this. What was the outcome of this?

I am going to have to transfer some of my domains because of this. I understand that there won't be an overwhelming demand for this but it is there and I would love for it to be implemented.

Any word on this?

IPV6 accessible root servers are available now, and it would be nice if there were IPV6 accessible namecheap servers too, and namecheap was IPV6 compatible.

IPV6 enabled DNS server's is the last component required to achieve full IPV6 support on my website (email works, websites works, openssh works, firewalls for IPV4 and IPv6 work, AAAA records work). At the moment I am simply using namecheap to host to other IPV6 enabled nameservers (which aren't accessible via IPv6). However, since that is all I am doing, you aren't providing me with much incentive to stick to namecheap. The moment I find a registrar whose provided nameservers are accessible by IPV6, I will jump ship.

Good enough isn't good enough for me, I'd like my server to be 100% IPV6 compliant, without relying on IPv4 for any means (other then the tunnel I use). There is no longer any good reason NOT to support IPV6.

I spoke to live chat.. Everyone here should post a ticket https://support.namecheap.com/index.php ... &_a=submit to domains technical support.

Namecheap is one of the only main registrar's now without Ipv6 glue support (http://www.sixxs.net/faq/dns/?faq=ipv6glue), and to become fully IPv6 certified by Hurricane electric requires at the least, IPv6.

Thats encouraging a lot of us to switch off Namecheap..

Hello All,

Unfortunately, we do not support name server registrations using IPv6 address, however our development team is working on its implementation.

For AAAA record support within DNS itself, you can use DNS system V2 as it has that feature. We will be also adding that to DNS system V1 shortly.

Kind regards,
Nata T.

When is IPV6 nameserver support/glue expected though? Because "we are working on it", could mean 3 years from now. It could also mean that its posted to the company bugzilla, but isn't assigned to anyone. Last time someone told me that, a year later they were still "working on it".

Technically, we could overcome the lack of AAAA support anyway by using our own DNS servers anyway (I have already done that), however, the only way to overcome lack of IPv6 nameserver glue, is to switch registrar....
